Sydney (Fides Service) - Mission Sunday is a “great opportunity to bear witness and proclaim Christ”, Fr Terence Bell, national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Australia said referring to events organised by Mission Sunday this year 23 October, marked by Catholics all over the world and for which the PMS in Australia have chosen the theme “Proclaiming Life for All. Witnessing, freeing, teaching celebrating”:”.
This year the day coincides with the end of the special Year of the Eucharist proclaimed by Pope John Paul II October 2004-2005 and mission animation has focused especially on Eucharist and Mission, the title of the late Pope’s Mission Sunday message, the last of his official messages.
Fr Bell said “We aim to build a world of justice and brotherhood where all peoples can live life to the full as God the Creator wishes. We receive the Eucharist the fullness of life and we cannot keep this gift for ourselves we must share it with all the men and women we meet. At the end of every Holy Mass we are sent out as “missionaries of the Eucharist” to carry to every person the immense gift we have received, life in Jesus Christ”.
Fr Bell illustrated the theme chosen for Mission Sunday in Australia “Life for All”: “We are sent to bear Witness to our faith taking part in public prayers organised in local Churches. We can teach offering formation courses to children, young people and adults. We must Free sharing our talents with those in need through the channel of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Lastly we celebrated which means w renew our life with community prayer at Holy Mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and also private prayers ”.
