Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) - Commission for Education and Religious Education and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) signed a memorandum of understanding in a bid to deliver value based quality education. According to a statement sent to Agenzia Fides, the commission will benefit from the professional expertise of CUEA in the area of research and training and CUEA will have an opportunity to contribute directly to the quality of education within the Church circles and beyond with an aim of building capacity of the agents of evangelization.
Speaking during the signing of the agreement, Kitale Bishop and Member of Commission for Education and Religious Education His Exc. Mgr. Maurice Crowley hopes that the first fruit of the partnership is a documented proposal on the incorporation of value based curriculum in the 2016 review.
The memorandum of understanding between the Bishops of Kenya and CUEA should pave the way for similar agreements with the other members of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA). The university was founded in 1984 under the auspices of AMECEA (which includes the Episcopal Conferences of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia). The offices of CUAE are in Nairobi, Kisumu and Eldoret, while the faculties are Social Sciences; Theology; Education; Science; Commerce, Law. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 15/01/2016)
