Saturday, 15 October 2005

Tokyo (Fides Service) - Every year the local Catholic Church in Japan invites young Catholics from Japan, China and Korea to take part in a symposium to discuss questions of justice and peace in Asia.
About 30 young people attended the symposium held recently at Sekiguchi parish church in the archdiocese of Tokyo to reflect on relations between the people of China, Japan and Korea in view of improving relations and promoting harmony and brotherhood.
The participants said it was important to be familiar with history in East Asia, even painful events such as war, conflict and death and essential to admit wrong doing and learn from mistakes in order to be committed to living in peace and harmony in the future.
The young participants agreed that to promote mutual understanding and friendship the first step is to meet, as young people from these three nations do on the occasion of the symposium. The meeting helps to build bridges, a task to which the local Church in each country is fully committed. As in the rest of the world Catholics in China, Japan and Korea, besides promoting the values of the Gospel of peace and universal brotherhood work to further reconciliation, tolerance, respect for human rights, as well as national development and prosperity, development.
