Lingayen (Agenzia Fides) - The Church has to deal with spiritual and pastoral matters, and not give the idea of being a commercial enterprise: with this in mind the Catholic Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, north of Manila, has decided to close several religious shops run by parishes, limiting them to a minimum. Archbishop Socrates Villegas, who is also the President of the Episcopal Conference, explained that the decision is to not give people "a false impression" that the Church is engaged in activities that go beyond its spiritual mission. As Fides learns, the decision was taken and agreed during a recent meeting with the diocesan clergy. During the meeting, among other things it was noted that parishes also sell some print materials "unrelated to devotion and catechesis". "We have chosen the path of pastoral prudence" said the Archbishop said. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 13/01/2016)
