Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - The President of the Dominican Episcopal Conference, His Exc. Mgr. Gregorio Nicanor Peña Rodríguez, Bishop of the Diocese of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia en Higüey, called on the Dominican people to think twice when voting in the upcoming elections, and not to choose people without morals. Everyone must consciously choose state officials. "If the choice falls on incompetent people, it will only be our fault, therefore I invite you to think well before voting" warned the Bishop.
It is not possible, he commented, that people go to vote and choose candidates for the simple fact that they are pointed out by others, without even having the profile of a civil servant, who has to demonstrate honesty first. "We do not know what to make of people who claim of being honest and then in practice are immoral", said Mgr. Nicanor Peña after participating in the celebration of 25 years of priesthood of the rector of PUCMM (Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic).
The General elections (presidential, Congress, municipal and overseas deputies) will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 in the Dominican Republic. Since 1994 it will be the first time that all public authorities are elected at the same time, it will also be the first time in the Dominican social and political history that all authorities will be elected directly.
