Port au Prince (Agenzia Fides) - The spokesman of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH) has confirmed that Cardinal Chibly Langlois, Bishop of Les Cayes, had informative meetings with members of the executive last weekend. Mgr. Patrick Aris, secretary of communications and spokesman for the Bishops' Conference, in a statement sent to Fides, stresses that it is the Catholic Church's role to meet the different political actors in an effort to facilitate dialogue. On 27 December the people of Haiti will have to choose between Jovenel Moise and Jude Celestin, after the first round of presidential elections held on October 25 (see Fides 01/12/2015).
As for his participation in the electoral Commission of evaluation that was created, Mgr. Aris informs that he is awaiting the conclusions of the Episcopal Conference which is assessing the situation as a whole before taking a decision. A few days after its creation by presidential decree, the electoral Commission of evaluation has not yet taken office. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 23/12/2015)
