Amman (Agenzia Fides) - On Wednesday, December 23 the "Restaurant of mercy" in Amman, supported and managed by the local Church in collaboration with Caritas Jordan will open its doors, and will offer five hot meals to those in need, throughout the year, from 2 pm to 4 pm, seven days a week.
The inauguration, in addition to Archbishop Maroun Laham, Vicar for Jordan of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, will also be attended by the mayor of Amman. The "Soup kitchen" refers to Agenzia Fides Wael Suleiman, President of Caritas Jordan "will be located in the former headquarters of the Catholic typography, which is not used anymore, in the area of Jabal Luweibdeh, close to the Latin Catholic parish dedicated to the Annunciation. We really wanted to to be near a parish, to show that this initiative is part of the path that the whole Church is called to undertake in the Holy Year of Mercy, as suggested by Pope Francis. And also to witness that the Church, when it is a docile instrument of God's mercy, embraces all, starting from the poor, without distinction. We already know that the vast majority of those who come to get our meals will be Muslims".
According to Wael Suleiman, the "Restaurant of mercy" is a small "miracle of love".
Even before its inauguration, "the news of the upcoming opening of the soup kitchen was released through the Arabic website abouna.org", refers to Agenzia Fides the president of Caritas Jordan "and two thousand positive and touching comments were made, with many who say they are ready to support the initiative in very concrete forms, providing food and committing themselves to giving their time as volunteers in the preparation and distribution of meals".
