VATICAN - Fr. Fabrizio Meroni - PIME, new Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 1 December Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples appointed Father Fabrizio Meroni, of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), was as new Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU). He succeeds Fr. Vito del Prete (PIME) who is Director of Agenzia Fides.
Father Meroni was presented to the staff of the International Secretariats of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) by the President of the POM, Archbishop Protase Rugambwa, on December 7. He was born in Milan in 1963, and ordained a priest in 1988 and began his pastoral ministry in Cambodia, Brazil and the United States of America, as a professor, in the Archdiocese of Washington.
The Pontifical Missionary Union was founded in Italy in 1916 by Blessed Paolo Manna (PIME) with the objective of the missionary animation priests, religious and all those engaged in the pastoral ministry of the Church. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 11/12/2015)
