Dhaka (Agenzia Fides) – The life of Father Piero Parolari, PIME missionary, wounded yesterday in an ambush in Dinajpur, is not in danger. The missionary, 64, taken to hospital in Dhaka, is still hospitalized but is out of intensive care. This was confirmed to Agenzia Fides by Fr. Carlo Dotti, Rector of the PIME house in Dhaka. "We are relieved. The grace of God protected him, because the attackers wanted to kill him". The missionary has broken ribs and bruises. Meanwhile, "the situation in the country is still tense and the houses of missionaries and foreigners are controlled and protected by the police", informs Fr. Dotti. "But our mission continues", he says.
During the investigations of Parolari’s attempted murder, Bangladeshi police arrested a local politician of the "Jamaat-e-Islami" party and arrested some militants of the radical group. According to investigators, the commando of three militants who fired at Parolari "could be the same who killed two other foreigners", the Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella, gunned down in September in Dhaka, and the Japanese citizen killed a few days later in Rangpur .
