Juba (Agenzia Fides) - Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria State, in South Sudan is a "ghost town" after the flight of the inhabitants because of violent clashes between the army loyal to President Salva Kiir and the local militia. This was denounced by deputy Festo Kumba. According to reports from the Catholic Radio Network, part of the population is displaced in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
Therefore fighting continues in some areas of South Sudan, despite a peace agreement signed in August between the government of Juba and former Vice President, Riek Machar, to end the civil war which broke out in December 2013, which mainly affected the northern States (Unity and Upper Nile) and eastern Jonglei. The clashes in recent months are concentrated in the southern states and affect some local militias. (LM.) (Agenzia Fides 10/12/2015)
