ASIA/SINGAPORE - Archbishop Goh: "There is no evangelization without prayer"

Singapore (Agenzia Fides) - "Christians cannot proclaim Christ to the world if they are not converted to Christ. The heart of the new evangelization is prayer and spiritual renewal": This is what the Archbishop of Singapore, William Goh said, speaking to a crowd of faithful gathered to conclude the Marian Year, lived by the local Church. As reported to Fides, in a Mass attended by over 600 faithful, the Archbishop recalled the danger of falling into functionalism and seeing evangelization as the result of human effort, specifying that "programs do not lead to a conversion of hearts".
"The heart of change must be prayer", putting emphasis on the renewal of faith that is only "work of grace". Speaking of the "primacy of grace", the Archbishop recalled the centrality of prayer, because "a person who does not pray simply does not believe in the primacy of grace". Without prayer, without the sacraments, we cannot speak of evangelization".
The Archdiocese had launched a special "Marian Year" in October 2014 to consecrate the work of the new evangelization in Singapore to Mary. During the year, a Marian icon visited the 27 parishes. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 09/11/2015)
