Lima (Agenzia Fides) - The raids and assaults carried out between 1980 and 2000, due to the work of wood traders, miners and members of the Shining Path, not only reduced the lands of the Ashaninka ethnic group that live in the forest of Peru but also brought much malnutrition among 97,000 inhabitants. The most affected are children. According to estimates of the Central Asháninka of the Ene River, the largest indigenous organization in the area, 80% of children under five years of age suffer from malnutrition. The State tries to help this population, historically known for being fiercely independent, and in 2013 the Qali Warma program provided food for 3200 students of 54 native communities living along the Ene river.
