OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - Giuseppine Sisters make youth pastoral a priority in view of World Youth Day 2008 to be hosted by Sydney

Sydney (Fides Service) - Draw young people to Christ, offering them ways to deepen their faith and personal vocation, spread the values of the Gospel in this generation of play stations and text messages: this is the goal of new pastoral plans launched by the community of Giuseppine Sisters in Australia who have decided to sustain the activity of lay Catholics and to make evangelisation of youth a priority.
“What the world needs today is hope, particularly the younger generations who are the future of the country and the Church”, the Sisters said during a recent national meeting.
Their work is precious in view of World Youth Day 2008 to be hosted this time by Sydney. The Sisters see World Youth Day as an ”injection of spiritual values” which will put new life into Australia’s Catholics leading them to reflect on spiritual values and how these can change a person’s style of life. The Sisters want World Youth Day 2008 to re-consider the great existential questions and the message of Jesus Christ. One of the proposed slogans for World Youth Day 2008 is “Take up your cross and follow me!”.
