Puno (Agenzia Fides) - Among the many obstacles that people with disabilities are faced with in order to live a "normal" life, a note sent to Fides from a local source wants to draw attention on the problems of deaf people, which in Peru are 532,000 while there are just 23 interpreters. The serious problems that this group has to face to access various public services due to the lack of interpreters of sign language are many. The first is the law governing this matter. At first glance, these problems do not appear obvious, because deaf people are able to cross the street, buy something or use social networks to communicate with the world, but in Peru they have serious limitations. The note sent by Radio Onda Azul, Catholic radio, specifies that, for example, if they go to hospital and there is no interpreter of sign language, they are simply not assisted. The same thing occurs if they go to a bank, or if they want to lodge a complaint. The situation is even worse in schools. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 04/12/2015)
