New Delhi (Fides Service) - In these last two weeks of the special Year of the Eucharist called by Pope John Paul II October 2004-2005, Catholics in Bangalore Karnataka state, recently rook part in three days of intense prayer and reflection in the Eucharist. They included in their prayer a special intention for the victims of the recent tragic earthquake in the border region of Kashmir.
Over 5,000 Catholics attended a special Mass offered for the quake victims and the mourning families presided by the Archbishop of Bangalore Bernard Moras. In his homily the archbishop urged the faithful to give generously to help the homeless and the suffering.
In the meantime in the Indian part of Kashmir a Catholic hospital in Baramulla has become the headquarters for emergency aid supplied by Christian organisations. St Joseph’s Hospital, situated in the affected area, needs more doctors and nurses to attend to numerous people injured in the tragedy. Caritas India is collecting medical equipment and medicines to send to the hospital and asking for doctors to volunteer to go to Baramulla. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 11/10/2005 righe 27 parole 256)
