Bentiu (Agenzia Fides) - The situation in southern Sudan continues to worsen, in October alone, dozens of children died and cases of violence were recorded.
A new document of the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that in Leer, from October 4 to 22, the deaths of at least 80 civilians was recorded, 57 of them children. In the same period, the document reports the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war. In the regions most affected by the conflict, particularly in the south and center of the governorate of Unity, it is estimated that about 40,000 people could face catastrophic levels of food insecurity and malnutrition from October to December 2015. At a national level, in September, about 4 million people, 34% of the population, were affected by severe food insecurity, 80% more than last year. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 09/11/2015)
