Caacupé (Agenzia Fides) - Drug trafficking is one of the evils that affect justice in Paraguay. This is what was stated by His Exc. Mgr. Catalino Claudio Giménez Medina, Bishop of Caacupé (Paraguay) and President of the Episcopal Conference of Paraguay (CEP), in his homily during Sunday Mass on 1 November.

He stressed that this fact is of public knowledge, since drug trade has infiltrated in nearly all sectors of our society; this is why people are hungry and thirsty for justice.

Mgr. Giménez Medina expressed his thoughts immediately after the first anniversary of the violent death of journalist Pablo Medina, who was killed by gunmen allegedly hired by Vilmar "Neneco" Acosta, (see Fides 25/11/2014). Medina was killed for denouncing the activities of drug traffickers in the area of Canindeyú.

Mgr. Gimenez also pointed out that many politicians use their influence to evade justice or get milder sanctions and that the difficulties experienced by the country stem largely from the multiple cases of serious corruption. "Therefore, we cannot remain indifferent in the face of diseases and evils that affect us", he concluded and urged the faithful not to surrender. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 04/11/2015)
