Wednesday, 28 October 2015

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - "I have a strong belief, many times expressed by Pope Francis, that ecclesial institutions can become a leaven of peace and of human and spiritual development among the peoples. This is why the Pontifical Urbaniana University is engaged in the formation of men and women capable of becoming bridges of relationships and instruments of mutual understanding with all those religious worlds, and with all those cultural and civilian realities with which it comes in contact". This is what Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Urbaniana University said at the opening of the academic year 2015-2016 which was held yesterday, October 27.
Speaking to professors, pupils and staff, gathered in the auditorium of the University, Cardinal Filoni recalled that in this university "in the course of many years, pupils have been formed who - either in the simplicity of their service to the community in which they were destined, or in the academic service at universities, seminaries, colleges, and community or in noble service to their local Churches as Pastors - have contributed to the common good of society with so many gifts received".
In this academic Year, the Pontifical Urbaniana University welcomes students and professors from over 110 different countries. "You are the wealth of our university - said the Cardinal. Our aim is to have people who are well formed, mature and culturally valuable".
Finally Cardinal Filoni said that "the aim of the studies in our Pontifical University is, therefore, cultural, ecclesial and human. This is our commitment". (SL) (Agenzia Fides 28/10/2015)
