Bogota (Fides Service) - The Missionary Month of October which culminates with World Mission Sunday 23 October is being celebrated in Colombia with the slogan “Missionaries, Bread broken for the life of the world” . In this special Year of the Eucharist Mission Sunday material prepared by the national Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies focuses on the bond between the Eucharist and Mission, based on three key elements: “Jesus” who makes present his Sacrifice on the Cross in every Mass; “Eucharist” food, fire, power and missionary zeal for all evangelisers; “Missionaries” who follow in the footsteps of Jesus with the witness of their life, evangelising work and in many cases the gift of life, as bread broken for the life of the world.
Dioceses all over the country prepare their own initiatives of missionary animation and collection for missionary cooperation. The PMS central offices distributed leaflets for missionary animation, publications of Pope John Paul II’s Message for Mission Sunday 2005; the formulary of the Mass for the evangelisation of Peoples, with a special prayer for all five continents and indications for parish priests to explain how Mission Sunday offerings are used.
The PMS have issued three leaflets. One for children “With love and offerings we feed the world” illustrates the activity of Pontifical Holy Childhood Mission Society to help more children know about Jesus, Bread of Life. The second for Youth: “Make your life bread broken for youth in need of life in Christ”, explains Mission Sunday in the light of Church statistics, and calls on young people to work to sustain vocations and to take part in Voluntary Missionary Service which this year involved 39 young people including 22 chosen to go on mission and who will start preparation on 20 October. The third for Adults includes an illustration of the significance of the Mission Sunday poster, a reflection on the Mission Sunday Message, the last written by the beloved late Pope John Paul II, and a description of the 4 pontifical Mission Societies and how to help the missionary Church.(RZ) (Agenzia Fides 11/10/2005, righe 28, parole 388)
