Santiago del Chile (Agenzia Fides) – For boys and girls at risk in Santiago de Chile the organization VE Global (VE) is recruiting and training volunteers for a global network to promote equal opportunities for children in difficulty. According to a statement sent to Fides, the Organisation has already received positive responses from foster homes, community centres, schools and kindergartens in the outskirts of Santiago and some 450 fulltime volunteers from 35 different countries. Volunteers offer help in many different ways: with homework, organising games, workshops and other activities. The volunteers build deep relationships with the children offering friendship and encouraging them to simply enjoy themselves and “be children”. Volunteers cooperate with programmes and projects set up by the VE Working Group and the VE Development and Communications fund raising team. The only condition for participation is that the voluntary service must be fulltime and cover a minimum period of four months, since it involves children who have been abandoned, even suffered maltreatment and now face enormous difficulties.
