AMERICA/PERU - Church in Peru strives to promote devotion and adoration of the sacrament of the Eucharist : Eucharistic Congress in Huánuco, Eucharistic Youth Day in Callao, in Lima a series of conferences and a festival of liturgical hymns

Perú (Agenzia Fides) - In the Year of the Eucharist the Church in Peru has organised various initiatives to foster deeper devotion and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. From 6 to 9 October at the auditorium of Immaculate Conception College Huánuco diocese there will be a diocesan Eucharist Congress in the theme “Eucharist, source and summit of the Church’s life and mission”. The aim is to reflect on the Mystery of the Eucharist and its importance for the life of Christians. Participants will include clergy, religious, teachers, students and lay people. Themes of conferences will include: Jesus in the Eucharist blesses Children; With Christ in the Eucharist we are witnesses of faith; Eucharist and Youth; Eucharist: strength, communion and union in the Family; Eucharist, Bread of reconciliation which restores communion of Love; Eucharist and Reconciliation; Eucharist heart of the Church’s mission; Eucharist: Principle and Project of Mission; The Church lives the Eucharist with sentiments of Faith; learning from Mary, woman of the Eucharist. The highpoint of the Congress will be a concelebration of Mass in the cathedral presided by the Bishop Jaime Rodríguez Salazar.
Saturday 8 October Callao diocese will celebrated Eucharistic Youth Day at the Shrine of Our Lady of Carmel at Legua. With Eucharistic hymns, dancing and other corporal expressions, the young participants will express their love for the Eucharist and their gratitude to John Paul II for calling this intense Year of the Eucharist. The central event will be an Hour of Adoration led by the Bishop Miguel Irizar.
From 12 to 14 October the National Mission Centre (CENAMIS) has organised a series of conferences on missionary spirituality on the theme “Eucharist-Mission and Life”. Speakers will focus on: the Eucharist, the greatest of miracles; Eucharist and the world today; Eucharist and the Church’s Mission.
Lastly Lima’s archdiocesan commission for sacred music presided by auxiliary Bishop Adriano Tomasi Travaglia is planning a “Festival of Hymns for Holy Communion and Adoration” with the active participation of church choirs from all over the archdiocese charged with animating liturgical celebrations in the Peruvian capita. The aim of the Festival is to encourage and help church choirs extend their repertoire of Eucharistic hymns as well as promote more active participation of the faithful in liturgical singing.
