Shi Jia Zhuang (Fides Service) - More than 200 people living in Ye Cao Ean dek village in Zan Huang district, Hebei province, recently had a free medical check-up thanks to a visiting group of Sisters of St Joseph diocesan congregation with a charisma of medical care and nursing. According to Hebei Catholic bulletin Faith, in collaboration with Bei Fang Jin De Catholic Association six Sisters recently visited Ye Cao Wan village to give medical examinations free of charge. The villagers welcomed the nuns with amazement and gratitude. One village woman said “Thank you for coming: please come again. We are not Christians and we know little about Catholics but we do know you are angels”.
These people cannot afford medical care and many are seriously ill. The visit by these nursing doctor Sisters was a real gift. With the support of Bei Fang Jin De Catholic Association the Sisters examined at least 200 people, as well as giving free medicines and advice on healthcare and diet. Their Christian witness made a deep impression on the non Christian villagers whose hearts were immediately won.
The Sisters of St Joseph were founded in 1891. Today there are 36 sisters working in a home for old people, two hospitals and a number of schools.
