Tuesday, 27 September 2005

Bangkok (Fides Service) - The challenges of social communications and the situation of the media in Asia in countries with different cultural and political contexts is the theme of a meeting organised by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference to be held 3 - 7 October at Assumption University Bangkok. The meeting, organised in collaboration with the Asian Research Centre for Religion and Social Communication and St John's University Bangkok, will discuss difficulties encountered in church communications in the different political, cultural situations and religious traditions. Participants will include Catholic scholars and theologians sent by Bishops’ Conferences as well as academics and experts of other faiths.
The meeting follows in the wake other FABC efforts in recent years to promote reflection on matters connected with communication and inter-religious dialogue. “Inter-religious Dialogue as Communication” was the title of a book recently published by the FABC Communications Office organiser of the October meeting and promoter of BISCOM (Bishops' Institute for Social Communication) where bishops, clergy and laity meet periodically to discuss matters inherent to social communications and dialogue.
