AFRICA/RWANDA - New rector for major inter-diocesan seminary for philosophy in Kabgayi

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 6 September 2005 appointed rector of the Major inter-diocesan Seminary for Philosophy in Kabgayi, Rev. Antoine Kambanda a member of the clergy of Kigali archdiocese.
The new rector was born on 10 November 1958 in Rwanda. Shortly afterwards his family moved to Kenya where he attended primary and secondary schools. He returned to Rwanda to go to the Propaedeutic minor seminary in Rutongo, Kigali (1983/84) then St. Charles major seminary in Nyakibanda, Butare (1984/90). He was ordained a priest on 8 September 1990 at Mbare, Kabgayi, by Pope John Paul II. He has since been: (1990/93) prefect of studies St. Vincent minor seminary in Ndera, Kigali; (1993/99) studies at the Alfonsiana Academy in Rome for a doctorate in moral theology; 1999 - 2005 director diocesan Caritas in Kigali, director diocesan committee for development, head of diocesan Justice and Peace commission, Professor of moral theology and Visitor at Nyakibanda major seminary.
