Hong Kong (Fides Service) - Hong Kong Catholic diocese and the Chinese University of Hong Kong have agreed to promote academic study of Catholicism. According to Hong Kong’s diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao the diocese donated 7 million HK dollars (about 700,000 Euro) to help the University start a Centre of Studies on Catholicism.
Two diocesan delegates will be part of the group of experts and scholars responsible for the competence and quality of the study curriculum. The money offered by the diocese will also serve to employ researchers and scholars, offer study grants, print publications and pay for accommodation for students from outside Hong Kong. The initiative opens a new season in relations between the local Catholic Church and the academic world with promising prospects for the promotion of Catholicism.
