ASIA/INDIA - Evangelising on the web: new Internet site for the Church in Gujarat state

Monday, 19 September 2005

Ahmedabad (Fides Service) - The Catholic Church in Gujarat state is about to launch a new web site to promote evangelisation. The project is entrusted to the Catholic Information Service Society” run by the Jesuits already involved in evangelisation through correspondence courses on Jesus Christ and the Bible.
In March the local Church thought of starting a new web site for evangelisation. A recent call by Pope Benedict XVI to use the Internet to spread the Good News of the Gospel prompted those involved to make the idea take concrete form.
The web site will have a home page in color and 600 pages of photographs, texts, statistics, areas for interaction. It will use two languages, English and locally spoken Gujarati and offer all kinds of information on the structures and activities of the four Catholic dioceses in Gujarat state. There will also be a section for questions and answers on matters such as “Who is Jesus Christ” and questions on the Bible, Old and New Testament. The answers will be provided by Catholic Information Service Society director Fr Paul Varghese.
