AFRICA/DEMOCRATIC CONGO - Church health structures at the service of all Congolese: Seminar in Kinshasa

Kinshasa (Fides Service)- Caritas Congo has said it is ready to work together with the national health care system. This emerged from a meeting of diocesan offices of medical services BDOM part of the Congo Bishops’ Commission for Caritas - Development Congo. According to local Catholic news agency DIA the meeting was held 12 to 14 September at Nganda Centre in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
BDOM are committed to applying national health policy while respecting Catholic doctrine and national identity, and to collaborate with the national health system. Staff at Catholic medical centres are committed to guaranteeing transparent management and efficient service.
BDOM will send the annual projects and reports to Caritas Congo service of health promotion and also help to fund this service. It was proposed that the two Catholic bodies should work together in some areas. First of all in decisions regarding national health policies and secondly to build a common picture to share experience and information.
At the end of the meeting Dr Bruno Miteyo, adjunct national director of Caritas Congo thanked the 25 participants representing 28 dioceses for the professional results achieved, congratulating in particular the many women involved for the important contribution.
