Thursday, 15 September 2005

Dakar (Fides Service)- Sunday 4 September was a great day for the Catholic parish of Immaculate Mary in the Parcelles Assainies district of Dakar capital of Senegal. Seven Brothers of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate OMI took perpetual vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.
The brothers came from different countries: Brothers Joseph Chiambom and Jovita Awuzieke from the OMI province of Cameroon; Brothers Berthier Eyer Mbwely and Fréderic Ingele Musumar from the Congo Province; Brothers Victor Damien Sene, André Sene and André Maurice Ndene from the OMI delegation in Senegal. Three more Brothers will take their vows in their respective province or delegation: Brothers Paul Vri in Cameroon, Cyril Keba in Zambia and Etienne Bassene in Senegal.
Heavy rain did not deter people from filling the church. The three local scholastics were accompanied by their family, parishioners acted as sponsors for the others.
The statue of the Founder Saint Bishop Eguene Mazenod set at the centre of the church was happy and proud to see these new sons join the Oblate family to continue his work for the good of the Church and the poor.
The Mass was enhanced with typical African calls of joy, tam-tam dancing and singing. It was followed by a reception for numerous guests and more the singing and dancing. Over the new white cassocks with belt and crucifix the newly professed Brothers radiant with joy wore typical necklaces of splendid Senegalese pearls. (L.M.)
