ASIA/CHINA - 3rd Cycle of Courses in Basic Catholic Theology in Beijing: “Young Catholics thirst to know more about the faith but they need expert guidance”

Thursday, 15 September 2005

Beijing (Fides Service) - The Institute for Studies in Catholic Faith and Culture in Beijing is starting a new three cycle of courses in Basic Catholic Theology. The Course Director Rev. Peter Zhao said “Our young Catholics thirst to know more about the faith and spirituality but they need guidance. To enrol students must have a degree. Some are working on a doctorate. This means they are well prepared and have enough familiarity with English or some other foreign language to follow a course. This year we are starting the 3rd cycle of courses. So far 40 students have enrolled. Many more applied but not all possess the necessary study requirements. Of course we organisers need assistance from the didactic and economic point of view”.
The three years courses will include lectures in Basic Theology and Introduction; Sacred Scitpure, Old and New Testament; Liturgy; Introduction to Catholic Church’s Social Doctrine; the theological thought of Vatican II. Stduents are required to attend all lectures.
