ASIA/CHINA - Lay Catholics fully active in the life of the Church thanks to on-going formation and in-depth study in the faith

Shi Jia Zhuang (Fides Service) - Over 120 lay Catholics actively involved in the life of the Church in the diocese of Shi Jia Zhuang, He Bei province, followed courses of religious formation for laity offered by the local Church during the Summer. He Bei is the Chinese province in which Catholics are most numerous and best organised and prepared. This is thanks to a great extent to lay people who take part regular formation for and in-depth study of the faith. The community organises regular courses of formation at various levels and different areas for laity engaged in various church activities and services: catechists, special ministers of the Eucharist, collaborators in pastoral care for young people and children. For the first time this year courses for adults and young people in evangelisation were held. Subjects included Sacred Scripture, doctrine, liturgy and testimonials from lay people invovled in the field of evangelisation. The course ended with a pilgrimage to a Marian Shrine in the province of Shan Xi. (Agenzia Fides 10/09/2005 Righe: 15 Parole: 183)
