Vatican City (Fides Service) - Catolic activity in the fields of pastoral care for healthcare workers and the sick, formation for health workers to help prevent disease and assist the sick in the poorest areas of the planet and promotion of respect for human life continues in various parts of the world. The Catholic Church plays a major role in this work through the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care and local Catholic commissions and offices.
This month India is holding a National Congress on Health Pastoral Care 18 to 21 September for which the President of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care Cardinal Lozano Barragan will travel to New Delhi. On that occasion there will be the presentation of a new Handbook on Health Pastoral Care for which Cardinal Barragan wrote the introduction.
After India the Cardinal will fly to New Zealand for a 4 day Pro-Life Congress 23 to 26 September in Auckland at which he will give a conference on ‘A Culture of Life or a Culture of Death’. Before returning to Rome where he will be present at the 11th Ordinary Synod of Bishops 2-23 October, the Cardinal will visit Australia to view the site chosen for the Catholic Church’s ‘World Day of the Sick 2006’, celebrated every year on 11th February and this time hosted by the city of Adelaide.
