Kinshasa (Fides Service)- Promote national and diocesan Bible Centres in view of organising Bible apostolate. This proposal was launched by Archbishop Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya of Kisangani who is President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Democratic Congo when he gave the opening address at the 12th Meeting of the All African Association of Catholic Exegetes being held in Kinshasa, 4 to 10 September on the theme “Human and Divine Wisdom in the Bible. Bible reading in the context of the Church family of God in Africa”.
According to the local Catholic new agency DIA in his intervention Archbishop Monsengwo Pasinya stressed the necessity of catechesis on Sacred Scripture and Salvation History to promote the inculturation of Bible and Gospel values in order to build an African society of respect for human dignity, justice and peace.
The All African Association of Catholic Exegetes was established in Yaounde, Cameroon in 1987, but its roots date to Africn Bible Days in Kinshasa in 1978. The members are people with degrees and doctorates in Sacred Scripture and Biblical Theology. They are bishops, priests, men and women religious and laity from Africa and also from Europe and Asia.
The task of the Association is biblical exegetics with rigorous application of the methods of biblical science and exegetics in the context of African reality. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 8/9/2005 righe 23 parole 246)
