New Delhi (Fides Service) - 'Religious India' is a new religious monthly launched by the Catholic Religious Conference of India. The editor is highly qualified and experienced Sr Mary Saroja of the congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph of Lyon, former headmiitress of a Catholic school in New Delhi.
The first issue of Religious India was sent to Catholic religious communities, dioceses, parishes, social and cultural centres, schools and public libraries, Christians of other denominations and also communities of other faiths. The publication, 125,000 copies printed in colour, will provide information on the charisma and activity of the many different institutes of Catholic religious in the country and serve as a channel of contact and exchange of experience.
A non religious section of the publication will focus on present day social and cultural questions presenting the position of Catholic Church teaching or Catholic theology.
The publication is a response to guidelines issued by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference. In recent general assemblies the Indian Bishops Conference gave special attention to the topic of the presence of the Church in the media. They have encouraged all the different members of the Catholic community to be involved in the field of social communications. The Catholic Church in India is convinced that the media can help promote peace and harmony in Indian society.
