AMERICA/PERU - Promote and support reflection on the family the “domestic church”: objective of Diocesan Family Week 18 to 23 September in Callao

Callao (Fides Service) - “To promote and support reflection on the family as a “domestic church’ and consolidate family pastoral care in the local Church is the goal of a Diocesan Family Week 18 23 September organised in the Peruvian diocese Callao by the Family Pastoral Commission. This Week of intense reflection, study and prayer will open with a solemn celebration of the Eucharist presided by the Bishop Miguel Irizar at the strine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Legua. In a series of workshops in two different places participants will reflect on the general theme of the value of the family and children in society and in the Church.
Problems to be discussed regard various aspects of the family. For example a workshop on the “Families in special sitautions” will focus on the tragedy of divorce, impact on family and individual life and conflict within the family; a workshop on “teenage pregnancy” will offer guidelines for parents and pastoral workers on how to accompany a pregnant teenage girl. Other themes for discussion include: the impact of the media on family, children and youth in particolar; difficulties of old age; the presence of a homosexual person in the family, pastoral and spiritual care for these people; characteristics of the process of evolution of the person from infancy to adult life.
“Falling in love” workshop will be mainly for young participants A married couple will share their experience and try to answer certain questions: how a couple can make their engagement period an experience of personal growth? How to build a positive relationship as an engaged couple? How to live a break up positively? What is the improtance of chastity in the periods of falling in love, engagement and marriage?
