Tuesday, 6 September 2005

New Orleans (Fides Service) - From the stricken city of New Orleans local Salesians involved with numerous other organisations in rescue work, aid and rebuilding, called on their counterparts in Italy for help. VIS Volunteers for International Development, NGO connected with the Salesians, lost no time and sent a first donation of 10.000 US$ to help repair or rebuild buildings damaged by hurricane Katrina. Shaw High School run by the Salesians for boys and girls in one of the poorest New Orleans districts is a priority.
“Solidarity knows no boundaries it is a universal sentiment which pulls down walls and views the world in global vision eliminating north and south. Humanity can survive only if we help one another: this is the universal lesson of hurricane Katrina”, said Antonio Raimondi, VIS president. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 6/9/2005 righe 15 parole 175)
