AMERICA/COLOMBIA - 11th Meeting for Rectors of Catholic and Christian Universities 14 - 16 September in Bogota: To deepen understanding of discipleship as a specific contribution of Catholic Universities to the 5th General Conference of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences

Wednesday, 27 July 2005

Bogota (Fides Service) - Organised by the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences, CELAM, through the Family, Life and Culture Department in collaboration with the Pontifical Xaverian University, the 11th Meeting for Rectors of Catholic and Christian Universities, will be held 14 - 16 September at the House for Bishops’ Meetings SPEC in Bogota .
The meeting will have the following objectives: take a look at the previous meetings in order to guarantee continuity; discuss the Christian reality among university students; deepen understanding of discipleship as a specific contribution of Catholic Universities to the 5th General Conference of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences; foster deeper communion and solidarity between Catholic univerisities in Latin America.
The themes will be proposed on the basis of three questions: Where do we come from? (looking at the past to assess progress achieved with annual meetings of Rectors). Where are we? (a questionnaire will be sent to Catholic universities on the continent to assess the students’ spiritual situation and grade of adhesion to the Church’s life and teaching). Where are we going? (to discuss the them of Discipleship proposed for the 5th CELAM general conference in 2007: the challenge to make Catholic universities places in which to learn discipleship).
