ASIA/IRAQ - In addition to war: crime. Alarm for increasing spread of heroine in Iraq.

Monday, 25 July 2005

Baghdad (Fides Service)- A drug alarm has been sounded in Iraq. The Iraqi police forces are increasingly concerned for the flow of drugs into the country. “security forces say drug traffickers organise heroine couriers coming from Afghanistan” a Catholic priest in Mosul Fr. Nizar Semaan told Fides. “Unfortunately until the national police force takes control over the whole country there will be not only terrorism, but also rising crime” Fr Nizar told Fides. Once drugs reach southern Iraq they certainly do not stay there. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 25/7/2005 righe 7, parole 103)
