Tuesday, 19 July 2005

Nairobi (Fides Service)- The funeral of Bishop Luigi Locati Vicar Apostolic of Isiolo, northern Kenya assassinated on 14 July will be held tomorrow Wednesday 20 June in Isiolo Cathedral.
“The Bishop will be buried in here in Isolo at the Cathedral among the people he loved” Fr Eugenio Ferrari, Consolata Missionary and National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Kenya told Fides. “His love was freely given to the pople and it was corresponded by the people. He was loved by all as the continual flow of mourners coming to pay their last respects demonstrates”.
“I am deeply moved to see so many Muslims among the people who move silently with tears in their eyes in front of the body of the dead Bishop” Fr. Ferrari said. “Bishop Locati was really loved by all. The fact that so many Muslims are among the mourners shows too that the Bishop’s tragic death had nothing to do with religion and probably neither with ethnic or tribal tension”
The police are in fact investigating more in the direction of a private motive. “The two men detained for questioning are Vicariate guards. The interrogation is not over but it would seem that elements pointing to their guilt have emerged”the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies concluded. (L.M.)
