Rome (Fides Service) - “Men and Women of Hope” is the slogan for Mission Sunday 23 October 2005chosen by the Italian National office for the Pontifical Mission Societies. Material prepared by the national office to increase mission awareness and promote animation in view of Mission Sunday is inspired by this theme. “Men and Women of Hope” is the title of a video produced for the occasion which highlights the many positive signs of mission in all sorts of realities: the Church in Guatemala siding with victims of cvil war which has lasted 36 years; pastoral work in an east Chicago ghetto; missionaries in Mozambique helping the slow process of rebuilding after disastrous floods in 2000; Sisters in Albania encourage people poor materially and poor in hope for the future; mission in Bangkok slums amidst drug abuse and prostitution; Sudanese refugees returning after Africa’s longest civil war ended with peace agreement on 9 January 2005; Little Sisters of Jesus working in Cuba, the Bishop of Babahoyo in Ecuador siding with workers in multinational banana plantations. These are only a few of the many wonderful stories of missionaries ‘Men and Women of Hope’ all over the world, in the front line to announce that Jesus Christ is Rsien from the dead.
