Cologne (Fides Service) - One of the special cultural initiatives organised on the occasion of the 20th World Youth Day in Cologne Germany 11 to 21 August 2005) will be an exhibition of paintings “Aspects of Christ: representations of Christ from late Middle Ages to the 20th century” on view at Wallraf-Richartzs-Museum- Fondation Carboud in Cologne, organised in collaboration with the Youth Church Hope Foundation of the Pontifical Council for the Laity and the archdiocese of Cologne. The 90 exhibits are famous works lent by private owners and museums all over the world. The aim of the exhibition“Aspects of Christ” is to help visitors encounter Jesus through words of famous artists such as Michelangelo, El Greco and Rubens, Newman, Beuys and Warhol.
“It is a fantastic exhibition and young people will love it”, three young WYD helpers who had a preview, agreed. “What I like about it is the variety of the works. Usually I am not very inspired by the work of the great artists of the past, but put next to modern art they acquire new significance. As I went through the exhibition more than once I was moved to pray. Among those representations of Christ I felt truly at home” said Jean-Baptiste Robert WYD helper from France.
The exhibition will run from 1 July to 2 October and for WYD participants who will be issued with a WDY-card the entrance fee is 1 Euro. (MS) (Agenzia Fides, 15/07/2005 - 21 righe, 267 parole)
