ASIA/TAIWAN - Over 400 young people from Taiwan prepare to take part in the 20th world Youth Day in Germany

Tai Chung (Fides Service) - About 400 young people who will go to the 20th World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany 11-21 August, recently took part in a day of preparation for the major Church event. The day focused on various topics including: how World Youth Days started, themes and events of each edition, the life and works of the new Pope Benedict XVI, activities and structures of the 20th WYD. The day was organised by the Taiwan Preparatory Committee in collaboration with the Lay Apostolate Commission of the Chinese Regional Bishops’ Conference (Taiwan). The aim was “to help the young people prepare spiritually in view of World Youth Day” the organisers said
According to Taipei diocesan bulletin Christian Life Weekly the audio, video and printed material shown at the meeting was prepared by the young participants themselves who also gave a performance of song and dance in traditional costume. The meetings closed with a prayer vigil and the young participants came away spiritually enriched and looking forward to their pilgrimage to Cologne and meeting young believers from all over the world and the Pope.
