EUROPE/ITALY - Meeting on healthcare in Africa: Italian NGOs build a bridge of assistance, research and solidarity with the sick

Rome (Fides Service) - On 27 June an association of Italian NGOs will launch a programme to build an Italy-Africa bridge for assistance, research and solidarity for the sick”.
The programme is sponsored by MED e MED Onlus Medicina e Mediterraneo, under the scientific direction of surgeon, oncologist and gynaecologist Luigi Gentilini. The first goals of the Bridge will be a programme to meet the most urgent needs of people in Africa, a programme to promote breast feeding and a programme to educate families mothers in particular to make a more rational use of water.
MED and MED Onlus Medicina e Mediterraneo was formed on 18 January 2001 to promote healthcare programmes in Mediterranean countries. Achievements include a guide on healthcare centres in the various countries and a count of decompression chambers at the disposal of the local people to treat serious endemic pathologies such as Buruli ulcers, and also offer assistance to local and foreign tourists and deep sea divers.
