EUROPE/SPAIN - Pro-family and real marriage demonstrations in front of Spanish embassies and consulates in Mexico, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Argentina to coincide with June 18 Pro-family demonstration in Madrid

Friday, 17 June 2005

Madrid (Fides) - This morning in Madrid at a media conference in view of the June 18 pro-family demonstration tomorrow here in the capital of Spain María del Prete Vice international president of the Latin American Family Network ‘Red Familia’ which comprises more than 200 different associations representing over 2 million families in Latin America said similar demonstrations would take place at the same time in front of Spanish embassies and consulates in Mexico, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Argentina because, while Red Familia agrees that the dignity, rights and freedom of every human person exist and must be respected “we can never accept the idea that people of the same six living together can have the same status as married couples and may adopt children".
At the same media conference the President of French Institute of Family Policies Jean Luois Thès also voiced solidarity with families in Spain and said that similar demonstrations would be organised in his country, because, he said “this is all part of an international strategy to impose homosexual marriage and adoption despite the refusal of the general public and families”. For her part Sharon Slater who chairs United Families International which comprises 200.000 families in the United States and Canada said: “As marriage is, so are the children, so is the nation and so is the world. Because we live in a global society what happens in Spain is important for the rest of the world. And nothing is more important for the future of this great society and nation of Spain than the protection of marriage and the family”. (R.G.) (Agenzia Fides 17/6/2005, righe 18, parole 259)
