ASIA/NEPAL - Although extremely poor, families in Nepal have a keen sense of family- Nepal’s Catholics support Spain’s struggle for the family

Kathmandu (Fides Service) - “The small Catholic Church in Nepal fully supports her sister Church in Spain of age-old Christian traditions. Human life and the human family are the most important and fundamental values which exist all over the world. This attempt to equal homosexual unions to marriage is an attack on the natural law established by the Creator and should be regarded with deep concern and rejected”: Fr. Pius Perumana, Pro- Apostolic Prefect of Nepal told Fides.
Fr. Pius just returned from a visit to east Nepal for years the scene of fighting between army and Maoist rebels: “I saw families without electricity or water, people who struggle to survive but all united as single families and quick to show solidarity to others; the family nucleus is a fundamental point of reference. In my opinion it is abundance and consumerism in the rich West and the northern hemisphere of the world which leads people to lose sight of the most important and authentic values in life”.
