Dacca (Fides Service) - “The value of the family is the heritage of each person and it is necessary to reawaken awareness of its importance. The family must be lived, loved and defended as fundamental, the root from which we are born. Like the witness and martyrs for the faith in the past, today in the third millennium Christians must bear witness to the family. It is up to Christian laity to bear witness to the beauty of the family which is a message in itself. The family is a gift which must be rediscovered and protected” Xaverian missionary Fr. Silvano Garello in Dacca told Fides with regard to the pro-family demonstration in Spain on June 18.
The missionary added that “also here in Bangladesh, a Muslim country, the family is of the utmost importance a point of reference for every individual to understand his or her identity, history and roots. When we look at the West and see these values being questioned we are very deeply concerned. Every human person has roots and if the roots are cut the person is eradicated and de-personalised”.
“In homosexual couples identity is at risk and the natural union of a man and a woman is betrayed at the origin - said Fr. Garello - is it impossible for persons of the same sex to form a family and educate children?”. The missionary assures full support to the pro-family demonstration in Spain.
