Wednesday, 15 June 2005

Rome (Fides Service)- “The natural institution of the family which has its origin in God must be supported always and every initiative to this purpose is very welcome” said Archbishop Fulgence Rabeony, S.I., of Toliara President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Madagascar expressing solidarity with the organisers of the pro-family demonstration in Madrid, Spain on June 18 with the slogan “The family is important. For the right to have a mother and a father. For freedom”.
“One of our main concerns as Bishops is to promote the family founded on the natural law given us by God” the Archbishop said. “Thank God in Madagascar the family is not under attack as it is in Europe. But we do have problems, for example polygamy is still practised in certain parts of the country”.
“The Church has always provided education as a means to help families. In fact many families cannot afford to give children a good education. All over Madagascar we run programmes to offer parents the possibility to let their sons and daughters study” the Archbishop of Toliara concluded. (L.M.)
