Seoul (Fides) - In view of World Environment Day on June 5 the Catholic Church in Korea issued information on a number of questions dear to the community of believers which can offer valid ideas for reflection for all Koreans: protection of creation as the work of God, a manifestation of his creative power; protection of life, supreme gift of God the Creator; return to a simple life style more contact with nature to discover self and personal relationship with God.
On the occasion of World Environment Day the Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea issued a statement signed by Mgr. Boniface Choi ki-san, urging Catholics to make concrete gestures in daily life to promote a culture of life instead of the culture of death which is gradually taking over in social behaviour. The Bishops spoke of “ecology of life”, that life is God’s supreme gift and that any move to protect the environment and nature must start from protection of human life from conception to natural end.
The Bishops also underline the need to protect the rights of farmers who work in the environment and they encourage Catholics to return to a more simple life style which fosters the spiritual development of the person and a personal relation with God .
