Brasilia (Fides Service) - Accepting the challenge and appeal launched by the 2005 Fraternity Campaign promoted by the National Council of Churches in Brazil with which all are called to to promote and defend peace, this year’s Mission Campaign in Brazil will have the theme “Mission at the Service of Peace”.
“As missionaries we are called and sent to proclaim the Good News of peace. Promoting peace is a question of being faithful to the missionary mandate of Jesus Christ. Missionaries have the duty to promote and defend peace” Bishop Sérgio Eduardo Castriani CSSp., of Tefé President of the Bishops commission for missionary activity and inter-ecclesial co-operation and Fr Daniele Lagni national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Brazil write in the introduction in the handbook on Missionary Celebrations in 2005 which will culminate with World Mission Sunday in October.
The PMS in Brazil, responsible for the Mission Campaign in collaboration with the Bishops’ Conference, prepared and presented the handbook on missionary information, animation and cooperation in Brazil in preparation for World Mission Sunday this year. The handbook was presented by Fr Lagni at the 1st meeting for representatives of Missionary Youth held 27-29 May at the PMS offices. The handbook offers suggestions for five liturgical celebrations in October, the month for the missions on the theme of peace: peace, fruit of justice; peace promotion of the values of the Kingdom of God; Peace and new world relations; missionaries promoters of peace; Mission and promotion of peace.
