AMERICA/CHILE - REV. GEORGE VEGA VELASCO APPOINTED NATIONAL DIRECTOR OF PONTIFICAL MISSION SOCIETIES

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, has appointed (11 April 2003) National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies in Chile, Rev. George Patricio Vega Velasco.
Rev. Vega Velasco, a member of the Society of Divine Word Missionaries, was born in Santigao de Chile 12 June 1957 and ordained a priest in 1984. He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Seminary of Santiago and theology at the Catholic University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. After his ordination he was sent on mission to Angola and for fifteen years 1984-1999 he ministered in a number of parishes and was also engaged in the formation of candidates to the priesthood. In 1999 he returned to Chile to take charge of the Missions Office of the Chilean Province of the Divine Word Missionaries. (Fides Service 30/4/2003 EM lines 52 Words: 721)
