AFRICA/ZAMBIA - Catholic diocesan radio station Radio Musi O Tunya in Livingstone resumes broadcasts

Thursday, 19 May 2005

Livingstone (Fides Service)- The local Catholic radio station, Radio Musi O Tunya opened by Livingstone diocese informed us that it has been able to resume broadcasts being closed some months ago. The radio was issued with a licence following an inspection by a team of experts from the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Communications’ Authorities and the Zambian National Broadcasting Corporation ZNBC.
Radio Musi O Tunya was closed in December 2004 by the Ministry of Information and Communications and told to acquire an electricity generator, better electrical installations and request 24 hour police protection.
In March the station purchased the generator and a hall for recording while work was undertaken to improve its premises and equipment.
Thanks to collections organised locally by the Catholics of Livingstone and voluntary labour, the radio was able to resume its broadcasts. Funds were also offered by the Pontifical Mission Societies Germany, Missio Aachen, The Finish Ambassador to Zambia as well as the diocese of Livingstone. (L.M.)
